Years Funded : 1999; 2000.
Institution : Tshwane University of Technology
Course : National Diploma, ICT

I was raised by my grandparents in Soshanguve township in Tshwane. Our community was very close and everyone helped everyone. I was supported by my relatives on many occasions as a young kid growing up. I was not aware that my family was poor while growing up because as a child, you only know what you see and accept it as a normal way of life. It was only when I started working that I realised the level of poverty I had grown up in. I studied Information and Communications Technology at the Tshwane University of Technology, funded by NSFAS. My family would not have afforded my studies if it was not for NSFAS. After I graduated, I held different jobs in ICT. I am currently the Chief Executive for SmartHome Connect Pty Ltd and Founder of AfricaLead.

My most recent job was Executive Head of Commercial Operations for International Markets (African Operations) at Vodacom, where my role entailed managing the delivery of customer facing channels in all Vodacom Markets. In this role I was recognised as one of the Vodafone’s 100 inspiring women across all the markets. This was based on my contribution to strive toward improving gender balance across the company. I also worked for Sun International as Group Manager for IT Strategy and Architecture, where I was responsible for defining the IT strategy along with business, defining key priorities as well as architecture and business analysis team. At Nedbank, I led the account origination and Maintenance architecture and governance piece. This work resulted in consolidating 300 applications to 33 (IT savings of 33 million), it is for this reason I was given the Top Performer award in group.

I spent my career in the architecture and governance space, assisting companies to implement sets of management practices to determine the level and extend of IT investment, making investment decisions, track IT performance and the return on Investment. I have Masters in Business Information System, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and Masters in Business Administration from Gordon Institute of Business Science. In addition I am a United States Professional fellow in the area of Innovation and Technology. Because of the help I got, I am now in a position to also help my siblings by paying for their education and providing the support they need. I am involved in charity work where we help little children from disadvantaged backgrounds. I have travelled the world thanks to NSFAS

“NSFAS is your helping hand. Make use of this helping hand and study hard to get good results. Make sure that you know who you are and what you want because it is difficult to achieve success when you do not know what you want. Do not compete with others, but strive to be the best you can be”.
