NSFAS - Tomorrow starts now

Profile | Operations

NSFAS works closely with South Africa's 23 public higher education institutions and their Financial Aid offices do most of the initial processing of awards.

The Financial Aids offices are responsible for:

  1. advertising the availability of study loans
  2. making sure the applicants are eligible for financial aid and have the academic ability to succeed
  3. decide the size of the award or student loan
  4. make the award and get the approved loan application form to NSFAS

Once the student loan has been approved by NSFAS, the institution is paid by us and the Financial Aid office ensures that the students' fee accounts are credited. At the end of the year, the Financial Aid offices send year-end reports to NSFAS which allows us to calculate the extent of the bursary received by each awardee based on academic success.

The work of each Financial Aid office gets monitored by our Institution Liaison team and then audited by independent auditors on instruction from NSFAS. The NSFAS Internal Auditor exams each report and our CEO takes responsibility for following up any areas that needs action or management.
